I had it sent to a former student. I have not seen it yet. He is a gifted student, winning scholarships, now in his twenties, and beginning medical school.

excellent chose for a historical pivotal period.
If these arrangement were collage essays the grades would be a D+. The material fail to provide enough musical depth in the area of articulation. Also the material in it's present form fail to be user friendly. These editions were hard to lie flat, this publications needed to be in a spiral note book for continuous accessibility. However, I did fine the arrangement were great at capturing and creating a relaxed social setting. Perhaps with a little more effort to detail, these arrangement could become the gold standard.

Nice Arrangements, Stiff Binding
I'm a fan of cocktail piano, and there are some really nice arrangements in this collection. Some I enjoy playing more than others but that's basically a style difference. My only negative comment is that the binding is so stiff that I am going to have to deconstruct the book to be able to turn the pages while continuing playing. I really hate having to stop a number to turn a page!

Needs something
I think what this book needs is a CD so you can hear what the music is supposed to sound like. I found the book difficult to play. I am not a beginner but I haven't played much, if any, jazz.

Pretty good. .
For some pianists, playing jazz does not come easily. We can slam out Rachmaninoff, but then trying to swing out the beats with the sometimes difficult rhythms of jazz does not come easily. I am one of those pianists. I am not familiar with many of these songs, so this music took some effort. I still don't feel like I am playing some of them as catchy as a jazz pianists, but of what I have played, I have enjoyed. It is not all easy to sight read no matter your level of play. . .

Like these arrangements very much. Challenging but not enough to frustrate. Some songs very familiar, others are unknown to me

Some Nice Selections
There are several familiar selections in this collection, which are relatively simple to play for jazz arrangements. In fact, the quibble that I have is that they lack a certain sophistication in chord substitutions and voicing; maybe they are too simple.

I am enjoying playing these arrangements. They are challenging but not frustrating. Most of the pieces sound like the original tunes with some nice runs and jazzy comps added. A few of the arrangements do not suit my taste and take too many liberties with the original. Even so, the book is a good deal. I Will buy more from this series.
